Product Placement is a marketing technique where inclusions and/or references to specific brands or products are incorporated into another work, such as a film or television program.
Much of this is done by loaning products, especially when expensive items, such as vehicles, are involved.
It also involves far less expensive items as this approach makes it far easier for studios to get the legal clearances they need to shoot the products on film.
For example, you might wonder why a production might use a Product Placement Agency to put a $10 bottle of wine on a set, instead of just going out and buying it.
The reason is that ever bottle of wine has a company logo and generally some copyrighted artwork. Trying to locate the correct person at a winery to get legal permission to reproduce those images on film is next to impossible in the timeframe they have.
However, when they get the wine or other products from an agency, the release is already done.
